Retrofit Buildings For Energy Efficiency

Back to Home
We all know the importance of the environment and our impact on it. What most people don't realize is that there are many ways to improve the performance of our current buildings without demolishing them and starting from scratch. LEED® Canada Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (EB: O&M) offers building owners and operators a way to measure energy and water consumption. Once you are measuring and know what you are dealing with, goals can be set to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases and the consumption rates of utilities, and actions can be taken to improve the overall efficiency of the building.

Designing and Developing Sustainable Projects

Buildings generate up to 35 per cent of all greenhouse gases, 35 per cent of landfill waste comes from construction and demolition activities, and 80 per cent of all water is consumed in and around buildings. It’s clear that making buildings greener can have a significant impact on larger environmental goals.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED) is the international mark of excellence for green buildings in 132 countries. Designing, building and operating building to these stringent standards demonstrates how committed you and your team are to the wellbeing of our environment - inside and outside.

There are rating systems for New Construction, Core and Shell, Commercial Interiors, Existing Buildings, Neighbourhoods and Homes. The entire gamut of construction is covered so there are green opportunities for everyone.  LEED v4 has just been released in Canada and sets the stage for the next step in the continuous improvement of the LEED rating systems.

LEED is the way to go. If you want to own or operate a building that is an energy efficient, healthy environment in which to work or live and recognize the value of bearing the international mark of excellence you must let LEED show the way to the top.  Reach out the team at the CaGBC. They hold sole license for LEED in Canada and are the go to organization when it comes to green building.
