Education Advances the Green Agenda

The statistics underline the urgency of the need. Our built environment is a crucial link in the drive to create a sustainable, green future. Buildings generate about 35 per cent of all greenhouse gases and 80 per cent of our freshwater is consumed in and around buildings.

It is important to recognize that it's not just new buildings that need to be environmentally friendly. The existing building stock must be retrofitted, and green infrastructure implemented through neighbourhood and community planning.

The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) is a not-for-profit organization that has been working in the field of green building and sustainable community development in Canada since 2002. Its activities are diverse but tightly focused on the end result of environmental sustainability in the built environment and education is the key to advancing its agenda.
