Education Advances the Green Agenda
The statistics underline the urgency
of the need. Our built environment is a crucial link in the drive to create a
sustainable, green future. Buildings generate about 35 per cent of all greenhouse
gases and 80 per cent of
our freshwater is consumed in and around buildings.
It is important to recognize that
it's not just new buildings that need to be environmentally friendly. The
existing building stock must be retrofitted, and green infrastructure implemented through neighbourhood and community planning.
The Canada Green Building
Council (CaGBC) is a not-for-profit organization that has been working in
the field of green building and sustainable community development in Canada since
2002. Its activities are diverse but tightly focused on the end result of
environmental sustainability in the built environment and
education is the key to advancing its agenda.
CaGBC's National Conference – Building Lasting Change
Building Lasting Change is the
CaGBC's National Conference and Expo. The annual conference brings the green building industry
together to share information and resources, and connects businesses,
organizations and individuals. It is a time to network both on the Green Business Showcase expo floor, which showcases innovative new products and technologies, and at the many
receptions during the conference.
Renowned for its educational content, Building Lasting Change is designed to be interactive and engaging while providing the opportunity for thought provoking discussions. The time you spend collaborating with industry experts and your peers will lead to greater things for Canada’s green building sector and our environment. This year's Building Lasting Change conference will be held in Vancouver from May 28-30, 2019.
Each year, presentations and presenters are selected
by a national program committee comprised of qualified individuals with
expertise in a variety of green building specialty areas. Past conferences have included speakers such as Robert F. Kennedy, Jr, David Suzuki and Stephen Lewis, as well as B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell.
Industry professionals can earn continuing education hours to help maintain their LEED credentials by attending Building Lasting Change. Each session and workshop contributes toward their continuing education.
At the
CaGBC
Leadership Awards Gala, awards are presented to individuals and
organizations that made outstanding contributions to Canada's green building
industry in a variety of fields, including education.
The Building Lasting Change
conference welcomes more than 1,000 delegates representing the thought leaders of
the green building industry. The conference and expo are golden opportunities for both
delegates and exhibitors to meet with decision makers from all aspects of the
green building industry, from engineers, architects and designers, to
developers, urban planners and commercial real estate owners. The Green Business Showcase provides excellent industry exposure for exhibitors and allows delegates and trade show visitors to expand their networks and make new connections at the many social events on the floor.
Mark your calendars for Building Lasting Change 2019, taking place from May 28-30 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
